Cheap is a question on any McLaren. Before you treat a cheap asking price as a good deal, compare the entry models on records, recalls, known failure points, and inspection evidence. Then check the exact car by VIN.

McLaren says the 12C was its first series-production car with a one-piece carbon MonoCell, per its 12C page. That tub is why people want one. The screen, the door hinges, and the service file are where you look first.

What is the least expensive McLaren?

On recorded sales, the 12C. Its CLASSIC.COM average sits below the 570S average above. McLaren calls the 540C "the perfect introduction to the world of McLaren" on its 540C page. We found no dated US sale of a 540C, so it gets no price here.

Why are McLaren 570s so cheap?

Single 570S sales can run well below that average. The lowest sale in our table, the 2017 570S at $89,000, had 60,500 miles and one key, per Cars & Bids.

Its listed flaws were front-end chips, a cracked underbody panel, and seat and wheel wear. The same car then sold again on a second Cars & Bids auction page, for the same $89,000, on February 23, 2026. Ask the seller why the car sold twice in 19 days.

What is the cheapest new McLaren?

The GTS. Kelley Blue Book lists the 2026 McLaren GTS at a $229,900 starting price, and the 2026 Artura at $260,400. The 2027 GTS starts at $238,000 on the same page, checked September 17, 2026. A starting price comes before options, so ask the dealer for the itemized total on paper.

New cars still get a recall check. NHTSA's 2020 GT query lists five recalls. One of them, 25V216000, covers incorrectly routed brake lines on certain 600LT, 720S, Artura, GT, and GTS cars from the 2020 to 2025 model years.

Run the VIN before you talk price

Every recall in the table is VIN-specific. A model-year list is only the starting grid. Put the full 17-character VIN into the NHTSA recall lookup, which shows unrepaired recalls.

NHTSA says the lookup does not show recalls already repaired, some newly announced recalls, or recalls more than 15 years old. So ask a McLaren dealer to confirm on paper which campaigns were completed for this VIN.

NHTSA's model names are messy too. The 12C wiper recall names 2012 to 2014 coupes, yet our model-name queries for 2012 and 2014 coupes returned no recalls.

What the paper has to prove

Owner complaints to NHTSA are unverified reports with no failure rate behind them. They still tell you where to point the inspector.

• Door hinges on a 570S. One 2017 owner says a dealer found both front hinges cracked at about 8,500 miles, out of warranty. A 2019 owner reports both hinges fractured and says goodwill replacement was denied. Ask for any hinge invoice, and have the inspector look at both.
• The IRIS screen on a 12C. A 2012 owner says the touch screen stopped recognizing inputs. That owner cites "upwards of $10,000" to replace it out of warranty. Test every screen function on the drive.
• Headlights on a 12C. Another 2012 complaint reports condensation and mold inside the lights. Look inside both lenses.

Then ask for the service file. Per Cars & Bids, the 12C Spider in the table had an April 2025 annual service at 13,225 miles. It came with two keys, the window sticker, and records. A car with gaps in its annual service is unknown until proven, so price it in.

Certified or the cheapest listing?

McLaren's certified program gives a used car at least 12 months of McLaren warranty, extendable to 24 months, per its pre-owned 570S page. It adds at least 12 months of roadside assistance and tires with at least 3mm of tread.

Supply is thin. That page showed 0 certified 570S cars in US stock on September 17, 2026. So a cheap 570S is unlikely to come with that coverage today.

On a certified car, ask on paper whether the warranty covers the hinges and screen above. On the cheapest uncertified car, those repairs are yours.

Deal, Check, or Walk on the cheapest McLaren
