Exotic Index is local first. Capture needs no account. Pro collection recovery starts only after you explicitly connect Sign in with Apple.
Local-first collection
Exotic Index stores your car sightings on your iPhone first. Your private collection can include original and processed photos, dates, names you enter, mystery cars, notes, favorites, repeat encounters, event albums, and an optional location. Capture and the local garage do not require an account or create a public profile.
Original photos can contain camera metadata. Exotic Index removes metadata from processed archive photos and privacy-reviewed share cards, but a private collection backup can include original photos and their source metadata. Store exported backups privately.
Accounts and collection recovery
At launch, the subscription service creates or uses a random app-user identifier to check Pro access, restore purchases, and manage subscription state. This does not require your name, email address, or password.
Pro Cloud Archive starts only after you explicitly use Sign in with Apple in Settings. The app does not request your Apple name or email scopes. Apple and our cloud provider process the signed identity token and stable account identifier needed to create or recover your private archive. Launch, capture, purchase refresh, and background work never create a new cloud owner.
Using the same Apple Account on another iPhone lets you restore missing cars, processed photos, favorites, repeat encounters, and event albums from your Pro archive. Restoring an Apple purchase and recovering collection data are separate actions: purchase restoration restores eligible Pro access, then Apple-backed collection recovery restores missing items.
Naming cars
The launch version lets you enter a car name manually, connect another sighting as a repeat encounter, or keep it as a mystery car for later review. It does not send photos to a remote vehicle-recognition provider.
A photo can still contain visible cars, license plates, people, and surroundings. Share previews remove saved location and metadata, but you remain responsible for reviewing the visible pixels before sharing.
Pro cloud archive and location
If you have Pro and connect Apple, the app can privately archive saved sighting details, including mystery status, notes, a processed photo, event-album context, and optional exact coordinates. Exact coordinates are never placed on a share card. Free local records remain available without Pro, and the iPhone collection stays primary.
Service providers and purchases
Apple processes subscription and lifetime-unlock payments. RevenueCat, our purchase and entitlement service provider, receives an anonymous app-user identifier, product and entitlement status, transaction state, and related purchase history needed to offer, restore, and manage Pro. Exotic Index does not receive your full payment-card number.
Apple provides account authentication for optional recovery. Supabase provides the authenticated database and private file storage used by Pro Cloud Archive. These providers receive only the information needed for the feature you choose. The launch version does not use a remote vehicle-recognition provider.
Diagnostics and tracking
The current iPhone app records a small set of product events and aggregate crash or performance counts in Apple system logs without attaching photos, plates, vehicle labels, notes, location, or sighting identifiers. The app does not use advertising tracking and does not sell personal information.
Deletion and retention
Settings includes Export My Collection, Restore Collection Backup, and Delete All My Data. The export is an importable private backup of cars, photos, favorites, repeat encounters, and event albums. Restoring skips items already on the iPhone instead of overwriting them.
When a cloud footprint may exist, deletion first requests removal of owned cloud rows, private storage objects, removable subscription mappings, and the cloud auth user. The app clears local records and credentials only after cloud deletion is confirmed or safely retryable.
Local sightings remain on your iPhone until you delete them, use Delete All My Data, or remove the app and its data. Exported files remain wherever you save or share them and must be deleted there separately.
Cloud archive data remains until you delete it or the service ends. Security, purchase, and deletion records can be kept longer when required to prevent fraud, complete deletion, or meet legal obligations. Contact us if the in-app deletion flow cannot complete.
Your choices
You can keep using the complete local collection without an account, decline location access, restore purchases, manage a recurring subscription, connect or avoid Apple recovery, export and restore a private backup, and delete your data from Settings. iOS Settings controls camera and location permission.
Children
The app is not directed to children under 13, and Exotic Index does not knowingly collect their personal information. A parent or guardian who believes a child submitted information can contact us to request deletion.
Policy changes
We will update the date at the top of this page when this policy changes. If a change materially affects how the app collects or uses information, we will provide additional notice in the app or through another appropriate channel before the change takes effect when required by law.
